Essential Hip Hop Albums – 2000
The year is 2000 and we have entered a new millennium, and the Rap game is being dominated some of the OG’s of the game and a white rapper from Detroit is planning on releasing an album that will prove to everyone else he belongs
Honorable Mention –
Afroman – Sell Your Dope
This album just has a lot of personal meaning for myself. It isn’t strong from start to finish, but I can still remember the first time I heard the songs Crazy Rap and Palmdale, it was a game changer for my taste in music.
Crazy Rap
Palmdale
*New Kids on the Block*
Nelly – Country Grammar
This album really brought a new sound to hip hop…. at the time it really wasn’t consider much more than a pop album and Nelly received much hate, but you can see a lot of elements that bled into the mid to late 2000’s hip hop scene. .
St. Louie
E.I
Ride Wit Me
Hot
Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP
After the Slim Shady LP, Eminem was already a house hold name, dropping an instant classic was just the next step. You couldn’t turn on the TV or Radio and not here a song from this album. This album shot Em to superstar status
The Real Slim Shady
Kill You
The Way I am
Marshall Mathers
*Savvy Vets*
Jay Z – The Dynasty
Jay starts the new millennium off strong, no one should be surprised that there will be multiple Jay Z albums on this list. The Dynasty features artist from Jay’s RoC-a-fella label on almost every song, this is the G.O.O.D Music album before good music was ever a thought. With production from a young Kanye, Just Blaze, and the Neptunes, the talent on this album will be tough to match.
FYI JAYZ COULD YOU PLEASE MAKE IT EASIER TO FIND YOU MUSIC OUTSIDE OF TIDAL….THANKS
I Just Wanna Love U
Streets is Watching
This Can’t Be Life
Big Tymers – I Got That Work
The Big Tymers are comprised of Mannie Fresh and Birdman…. I still can remember the first time I accidently downloaded a Big Tymer song off ARES(Limewire knockoff) in like 2003, changed my life for ever. You can thank albums like this for Cash Moneys success and the eventual discovery of artist such as Lil Wayne and Drake…
#1 Stunna
Get you roll on
Big Tymers
OutKast – Stankonia
This album sits above the rest, if I was just making a list of best Albums of all time this would be near the top. I got this album for my 6th birthday and Miss Jackson was my first “Favorite Song” ever, I used to sneak out of bed to watch the music video on MTV’s Top 20 countdown on late night TV. Clearly I hold many sentimental reasons for putting this on the list but the songs speak for them selves….. check it out.. I had trouble only picking 6 songs to put hear sorry, just such a large range of sounds.
